Self-compassion…

Email: Work in a theatre production, job is at risk. Worried. (US)

Empathetic. Worry is fully understandable. Sometimes, we do feel that we are less in control of our circumstances than we would like to be. But, we may want to use our belief, endurance & persistence to our advantage. A belief that we are no less skilful, talented or capable. A positive outlook & energy helps propel us past barriers. It keeps us going, even when situations seem challenging. As long as we persist, we keep ourself in the realm of possibilities.

Feel free to go with the flow, right now. Free to be objective, creative & resilient because we aren’t so attached to what we would like the results to be. Practice self-compassion, self-care. Patiently explore, share, seek all potential avenues for guidance, support & help (emotional, financial, familial). Reaching out for support is a sign of great strength. Good luck!

Teams…

Many teams face similar challenges. To build high-performing teams, managers need a comprehensive understanding of the organisational gaps they’re trying to fill & the skills to assess the effectiveness of the existing resources. To build a cohesive team, a ‘team fit‘ is essential. Though instincts & passion play a significant role, some guiding principles are effective in creating a X-factor.

Consider key functional expertise (e.g. finance), determine how the current composition in the team best serves our goals. Think about processes that require specific skills, assign responsibility to the strongest critical thinkers. Identify how members of the team collaborate, create or communicate? Are there ways we can enhance their performance by encouraging risk-taking, constructive criticism, objectivity, active listening, execution or mutual recognition?

Observe unique ways each colleague learns or leads. Introduce a cohesive style of learning & monitoring performance. Analyse how goals are shared, look for ways to make constant improvements in leadership, delegation & empathy. Building high-performing teams is surely tough but incredibly inspiring.
