As a kid, maids applied gentle cleansing ubtans (pastes) of turmeric, sandalwood, saffron, cashews, yoghurt, milk, honey and rose water, all over the body twice a week. Still follow tradition.
- 1 tablespoon besan (gram flour)
- 1/2 tablespoon turmeric
- 1/2 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon rose water
- 1/2 tablespoon sandalwood, others
- Blend with milk or yogurt
- Make enough for entire body, face
Take a pestle and mortar to grind fresh turmeric, cashews and sandalwood. Mix well and let it soak in for 15-20 mins.
Turmeric is a natural antiseptic, antibacterial properties, skin brightening effects. Besan is a good exfoliant, helps maintain pH balance of skin. Honey is a humectant that makes skin soft, supple and glow. Milk or yogurt help clear blemishes, dead cells, moisturise. Rose water is a great toner and saffron helps reduce tanning, boost natural collagen and skin oils.
