Plastic seas

Large quantities of plastic enters our oceans each year, polluting the seas, littering beaches & endangering marine life. Plastic pollution is found even in the most remote regions of earth like Antarctica, the Everest. Relatively little is known about the levels of plastic nestled on sea beds in deep-sea sediments.

Frontiers in Marine Science estimates there’s 14 million metric tons of micro-plastics at our ocean floors. More than 35 times as much plastic believed to be floating on the surface. Deepest oceans are vulnerable to plastic pollution. Plastic litter is one of our generation’s key environmental challenges, a potential health risk to humans & marine life. Around 150 million metric tons of plastic is already floating in our oceans with an additional 8 million tons entering the water each year.

Plastic dumped into our oceans mostly ends up on the coasts. There’s an urgent need to find effective, innovative solutions to stop plastic pollution before it reaches our oceans & seas. Governments, industries, scientists & communities need to work together to significantly reduce the amount of litter along the beaches & in our oceans.

Blue skies…

Dedicated to ones who’ve communicated stress due to Covid.

Empathetic. A humble analogy. When we refer to a beautiful day, often describe a day that is sunny, clear, without a cloud in sight. A sky that’s perfectly blue, bouncing along carelessly. Lightens our spirit, frees from worries to enjoy the moment. Until, clouds begin to form, a fog rolls in. Pretty puffs of white take on weird, whimsical darker shades. Our beautiful day disappears along with the sunshine.

A bright sky stimulates joy as we bask in the warmth of the sun. Should clouds appear to wash the sky with shadows, we allow a momentary change of weather affect our energy & enthusiasm, pulling us into our own cloudy funk? Darker days are just as much a part of life as are the days graced with sunshine. Show us a different perspective of our world, help appreciate moments of illumination, inspiration that inevitably follow.

Dark clouds can’t hide our beautiful blue sky forever. Occasional blocks in natural brilliance, balance resemble our own lives. Clouds eventually clear for brighter horizons. No matter how hard the rain falls, how chilly the fog is, it disappears. The sun breaks through. And, life isn’t just waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain! Our sky has always been a beautiful brilliant blue, simply visualise.

October 5 is celebrated each year as World Teacher’s Day. This year, it assumes a huge significance amid the Covid-19 pandemic. A great opportunity to say a big ‘thank you‘ to all the selfless teachers who have gone out of their way to make sure no-one is left behind.

In this crisis, teachers have shown immense courage & compassion, as they have done so often. Displayed leadership & innovation in ensuring that ‘Learning Never Stops‘. Around the world, they have worked individually & collectively to find innovative solutions for fresh & engaging learning environments. Their role in advising on school re-opening plans, supporting students with their return to safe schools is just as important. Inspirational.

Q&A…

Q: Easy to propose positivity, lost a very good job. (HK)

A: Empathetic. Believe, it helps to cultivate hope, optimism, positivity as a state of mind, as much as realistically possible, regardless of circumstances. Empowering. When it’s dark, dawn always isn’t that far away. All the best.

Q: How often should we post for a successful blog? (Canada)

A: Depends on the nature of the blog. If it’s tied to current events, readers might expect a post several times a day. If a life blog, several times a week may be enough. Consider the time, effort, challenge of producing new & engaging content.

Q: How do we consistently create fresh ideas for posts? (S. Korea)

A: Somehow, ideas flow naturally. Sometimes, at the most unlikely moments. An editorial calendar takes the pressure off generating ideas. We know how many ideas we have, how to use, when they’re due. Recommend carrying a notepad, pen or a simple note-taking app to make the most of inspiration, creativity when it strikes.
