Coronavirus pandemic could kill more through hunger than the disease itself warns Oxfam. People in middle-income countries who were on the ‘bread-line’ are tipped over the edge. World Food Program estimates people experiencing crisis-level hunger will rise to 270 million in 2020, an 82% increase since 2019.
Bleak scenario is outlined in Hunger Virus – Oxfam Report. Equates to almost 12,000 people dying per day. Hunger hotspots – Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Brazil, India where the situation is most severe. An estimated 122 million more people could be pushed to the brink of starvation due to declining aid, mass unemployment, disruption to food production & supplies.
