Email: Are you ‘pro’ or ‘anti’ abortion, as an educated woman? (US)
Hmmm. A very personal question, a very personal decision. Can admit a ‘humanist‘ perspective with due respect to any religious beliefs.
If one has to choose between risking life of the mother or life of an unborn foetus, which one’s more precious? A mutual decision based on intent, expectations. Also, women who conceive due to forced, inhumane actions like rape, lack of consent should be given a right to decide the best way forward in context of quality of life, happiness, personal choice.
Of course, all possible healthcare options should be mutually explored for well-informed decisions. For children themselves, it’s great if each child is a wanted child. A child’s right to inherent dignity, worth, value, love.
Improved sex education especially for sex workers, enhanced awareness in teenagers, increased security for women, easily available contraception, quality education, open communications in communities, career opportunities for young people can potentially help reduce number of abortions.
