HIP-HOP – street dance performed to Hip-Hop music. Wide range of styles primarily ‘Breaking’, created in 1970’s. Popularised by dance crews in U.S. TV show’s, films gave Hip-Hop main-stream exposure. Dance industry responded with commercial, studio-based versions of Hip-Hop called ‘New Style’. Hip-Hop influenced a style of Jazz dance called ‘Jazz-Funk’. Also, dance derivatives like ‘Jookin, Turfing, Krump’.

Europe hosts Hip-Hop dance competitions – UK B-Boy Championships, Juste Debout, EuroBattle. Australian competition – World Supremacy Battlegrounds. Japan hosts a 2-on-2 competition – World Dance ColosseumWhat distinguishes Hip-Hop is it’s ‘freestyle improvisational nature‘.
