At kids school, asked for help to write a few lessons learnt from the classic tale of tortoise and hare. The tale reminds us different people take life’s goals, aspirations at different speeds, pace of planning or actions. One way is not better or preferred than another.
In fact, the slower animal ends up arriving at the destination first! Similarly, some move quicker through obstacles, ambitions in lives. Others need slightly longer periods of time to process thoughts, plans to move into new states of awareness, actions. Quick movers may feel exasperated with a slower pace of life and vice versa.
People who take their time with things are rare. We live in a time when speed, action, quick results are valued above anything else. Therefore, people who naturally flow at a slower pace may feel out of sync or forced to go faster. This can be counter-productive as the stress to move faster, actually slows progress. If such a style is honoured though, surprisingly they find their way to the finish line, much faster than anticipated..
It’s important to remember we’re not actually in a race or competition to get ahead of another. Whether we’re fast movers or one of slower folks, we benefit from respecting, supporting the pace people comfortably choose for themselves.
