Attended a wedding with caged birds on display, as decorative items. Birds are meant to fly, be with their own kind in natural environments. In the wild, these ethereal beings are free, preen each other, fly together, play and share nests.
Life in captivity is a death sentence for birds, unethical. Suffer from distress, malnutrition, loneliness, fear of confinement. A free bird would be flying miles a day.
People love little canaries singing. But the reason is it’s missing it’s mate. Visitors walked up to cages, simply said: “Oh, what beautiful, beautiful birds.” Are they? Their beauty is in their fantasy flights, freedom to soar.
Unfortunately for birds, the very qualities we find admirable, fascinating – brilliant colours, speech intelligence, playfulness are all callously stolen, snatched.
If we love birds, contact bird rescue groups when needed. Foster, adopt an abused or neglected bird. A golden cage is still a cage!
