When we only associate with like-minded people, often there isn’t room to grow as new ideas aren’t introduced. We tend to gravitate towards such people – comfortable.
Life though has it’s way of bringing us into contact with people who positively trigger us with unique perspectives, ideologies, lifestyles or crazy ideas! New concepts, ways of being to possibly experience, explore and express selves.
We can choose to reject or resist. We can also choose to learn or respect this vibrant kaleidoscope of life. Decide our inclinations for ease of status-quo vs thoughtful effort.
Truth is human beings thrive and twirl in a world of fertile dualities and challenges. Want growth, stimulation, learning. How we choose to approach life determines if we engage or walk away. No right or wrong, personal preferences.
Realised exposure to different cultures or ideologies develops a depth of character, fresh shades of understanding, appreciation, knowledge and compassion. In a world of colourful contrasts or diverse dualities, we can’t truly discover who we are, want to be or what is missing, without a level of conscious engagement. A little discomfort is fertile ground for innovation, creativity or discovery.
We also uncover amazing, surprising similarities in underlying values, ways of being.
Rather than a ‘fight or flight’ response that comes naturally from basic survival instincts, we can always find balanced, respectful, peaceful ways to evolve together into higher more beautiful, purposeful, playful expressions of selves. Embracing and celebrating beauty in diversity gives meaningful insights, inner strength, offers great opportunities.
Recently, exposed to a few African cultures. Opened my mind to wonderful world of exciting possibilities. Love their humility, community spirit, glowing, grateful attitude to life despite hardships. Creative, other-worldy music, dance and rhythms!
