Email: Is being ‘rich’ very important to live an ideal life? (Japan)
A Google search on “how to make money” reveals 284 million entries!
We want to live a comfortable life – full of great experiences, buy luxuries, save and invest in a secure future. Economists argue money is ‘ultimate nirvana’! Money buys clothes, rent, food, entertainment, health, education and bare necessities of life.
The question isn’t whether money is important in absolute terms (of course it is), but whether marginally, having more money is important. Whether we should invest our all in maximising money, at the expense of equal or more significant pursuits.
There are many precious things money can’t buy. Can buy a rosewood bed but no sleep, a golden book but no wisdom, a diamond watch but no time, special sex but no true love.
Focusing on one relentlessly causes neglect to others. We may become materially rich but lack truly fulfilling ways of being or experiences. What are we willing to risk or sacrifice for marginally more money, needs careful thinking, judgement and planning?
Life currencies are equally important – adapt to unfamiliar, explore inspiring unknowns, embody creativity, invest in personal growth, generous social skills, real self-awareness, belief, pursue passions, sensitivity to follow a holistic and abundant approach to life.
‘Pursuit of an ideal life‘ ensures we adopt a wonderful balanced approach to both our material and non-material needs, desires, passions or aspirations.
