Email: Does being aggressive bring success at work? (US)
Hey,
Being aggressive & being assertive are two different communication approaches. An aggressive style may come across as self-centred, disregards needs, feelings or expectations of others while trying to prove our point of view or priorities.
Being assertive means we can stand up for ourself or other people’s rights in an open, balanced, collaborative, sensitive & positive way. It’s about recognising our personal power while staying polite, solution oriented & humble.
Respect is earned by listening patiently & compassionately. We can gently negotiate or tactfully influence. There’s a fine line between the two. Needs conscious & consistent effort to ensure we stay in the assertive zone.
