Lost islands…

Remotest islands have been easily lost and forgotten. No air routes, shipping lanes.

The Kerguelen – Indian Ocean islands with glaciers, mountains, rocky outcrops and vast plains of tussock grasses, mosses. Haven for seals, albatrosses, rare penguins.

Spitsbergen – Largest island of Svalbard archipelago, in Norway. Covered with stunning snow and ice, harbours gorgeous polar bears.

Pitcairn Island – Volcanic island in South Pacific. One of the largest marine reserves.

Novaya Zemlya – Two Arctic islands constitute Novaya Zemlya (New Land), a Russian archipelago. Site for Russian nuclear tests.

Tristan da Cunha – Southern island of St. Helena, rich and diverse wildlife reserves.

Easter Island – Rapa Nui, Te Pito te Henua, triangular volcanic islands in South Pacific. Most isolated place, awe-inspiring species of wildlife, flora and fauna.

South Georgia -Off Falkland Islands, a base for whaling and scientific expeditions.

Diego Garcia – Curious v-shaped coral atoll, in the centre of Indian Ocean. Massive air and naval support base for the US and UK.
