Mountain or sea?…

A curious link between topography & personality? Latest research reveals an interesting link between personality, moods & geography.

Generally, mountain lovers are introverts, ocean lovers are extroverts. Usually, people prefer the ocean to socialise, enjoy playful challenges. Prefer the mountains to contemplate, explore hilly terrains as a creative quest.

Quite contextual based on specific frames of mind we are in at any given moment like rejuvenation, team activities. Intriguing insights. Me, mostly a mountain girl though adore the sea, as well…

Pearls on writing…

Email: Tips on how to write, keen to start journaling? (HK)

Emily Dickinson’s inspiring advice on writing:

“There may be phrases which shall be palaces to dwell in, treasure houses to explore. A single word may be a window from which one may perceive all facets of earth in it’s full glory, rawness. Oftentimes, a word shall speak what accumulated volumes have laboured in vain to utter. Maybe years of crowded passion in a word, half a life in a sentence?

Labour therefore, not in thought alone, but in utterance. Clothe & re-clothe your grand conceptions until you find a phrase that with it’s grandeur shall be lucid also.

In many cases, these verses will seem to the reader like poetry torn up by roots with rain & dew still clinging to them, giving an inevitable freshness, an incredible fragrance not otherwise conveyed.”

Value…

Email: What does innovation really need to be? (France)

A humble perspective. It can be an incredibly novel thought or a lot of old ideas put together into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a shake to make new & curious combinations. We keep on turning, making new combinations indefinitely. Even if the idea is not new, our unique spin can create something special the world needs.

Also, a new idea starts somewhere. Each discovery is predicated on an earlier one. Penicillin, a 20th century discovery has roots going back 5,000 years to ancient Egypt, India, China when fungi & medicinal plants were used to treat diseases. Often, the word ‘original‘ is thought to mean ‘new‘, rather than ‘now seen from over the horizon.’

Regardless, the one thing that innovation needs to be is ‘valuable‘. Does it truly add value? Value to our world, to our environment, to our people. Now, how do we define value? Yet another question…
