Email: Tips on how to write, keen to start journaling? (HK)
Emily Dickinson’s inspiring advice on writing:
“There may be phrases which shall be palaces to dwell in, treasure houses to explore. A single word may be a window from which one may perceive all facets of earth in it’s full glory, rawness. Oftentimes, a word shall speak what accumulated volumes have laboured in vain to utter. Maybe years of crowded passion in a word, half a life in a sentence?
Labour therefore, not in thought alone, but in utterance. Clothe & re-clothe your grand conceptions until you find a phrase that with it’s grandeur shall be lucid also.
In many cases, these verses will seem to the reader like poetry torn up by roots with rain & dew still clinging to them, giving an inevitable freshness, an incredible fragrance not otherwise conveyed.”
