The blog will pick a word of the week, to share & explore the selected word. Here’s an expression for the word – art.

“I dream my painting & then I paint my dream” – Vincent van Gogh. Art is the intentional creation or arrangement of experiences – images, sounds, words, movements or objects to express ideas, emotions, meanings or aesthetic qualities. Art creates perceptions that are pleasing, striking or thought-provoking. A landscape painting can be art. A symphony can be art. A performance, a photograph, a film or a digital installation can be art. Even an ordinary object placed in a gallery can become art if presented with artistic intent & interpretation. “The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery” – Francis Bacon.
Art is important because it inspires us to express, observe, understand, appreciate & share human experiences in ways that facts & practical communication often cannot. A painting, a song, a dance or a poem can convey joy, love, fear or hope with great depth. Art records how people lived, what they valued & how they understood the world. It offers beauty, entertainment, stimulation and reflection. Makes an environment more meaningful, helps us find our creativity & purpose.
Art often raises questions about politics, ethics, identity or social issues to initiate a fair discussion, to critique injustice, to encourage us to reconsider our assumptions or beliefs. We leverage art to cope with stress, to process challenging life experiences, to connect playfully with others. Both creating & experiencing art can contribute to an emotional well-being. “A work of art is a world in itself, reflecting the senses & emotions of the artist’s world” – Hans Hofmann.
Art is about sharing our creativity & uniqueness. An expansive & natural extension of our core personality. An incredible communication of aesthetic & abstract concepts that can’t be faithfully portrayed in words (music, painting, sculpture, dance, film or poetry). Art is an ocean of sensory possibilities. Through art we sense, create our own definitions of beauty, vulnerability & reality. Ultimately, art is an external manifestation of our true passion. “Art takes courage” – Henri Matisse.
