Emotion

The blog will pick a word of the week, to share & explore the selected word. Here’s an expression for the word – emotion. Defined as a strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances, moods, experiences, expectations or relationships. An instinctive or intuitive feeling as distinguished from reasoning or knowledge. The word ’emotion’ was coined in the 1800s by Thomas Brown. “The best & the most beautiful things in our world must be felt with the heart” – Helen Keller. Our emotions make us human, the driving force of our life.

In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through 87 of the emotions & experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills & lays out an actionable framework for meaningful connections, she gives us the language & tools to access a universe of choices & chances – a universe where we can share the stories of our bravest, most vulnerable & heart-warming moments in a way that build positive emotions & happiness.

Atlas of the Heart lays out an invaluable, research-based model that shows us that naming an experience doesn’t give the experience more power, it gives us the power of understanding, empathy, joy & meaning. Brown shares, “I want this to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart & the right maps, we can travel anywhere & never fear losing ourselves. Even when we have no idea where we are.” An inspirational read.
