Save the black rhino…

Poaching, land clearing for agriculture & human settlement have decimated the black rhinoceros population across Africa. Numbers have plummeted from 100,000 to fewer than 4,000 animals. Today, black rhinos are found in habitats ranging from desert in SW Africa to the montane forests of Kenya. The eastern black rhino is the most endangered sub-species with fewer than 950 remaining. 97% of black rhinos are lost, primarily due to illegal poaching for their horns. Sadly, one black rhino sub-species is already extinct & the others are critically endangered.

Kenya is home to 80% of eastern black rhinos. Fauna & Flora International (FFI) supports Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a crucial sanctuary in Kenya’s Laikipia County with the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa. Ensures high standards of monitoring & incentives for local conservation support through community development programs. Manages the existing population with a secure habitat to thrive & grow.
