Around 30,000 African Lions are left in the wild. Lion populations has declined over 40% over the last 5 years. ‘Vulnerable’ on the IUCN Red-list. Animal adoptions give a huge boost to help fund conservation projects, support awareness generation with local communities, enables targeted monitoring of lion movement, invest in technology & training to reduce human-lion conflict.
African lions are found in Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania & Zambia. The trade in lion bone as a substitute for tiger bone in traditional Asian medicine has risen. Habitat & loss of prey has caused the lion population to become small & isolated. Our adoption will help WWF promote sustainable use of natural resources & use technology to monitor lions in the Maasai Mara.
