Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 – 1919). A fabulous French genius, a leading painter in the development of the impressionist style, a celebrator of emotions & beauty. Renoir’s paintings are notable for their vibrant light & saturated colour, often focusing on people in intimate & candid compositions. He discovered that the colour of shadows is not brown or black, but the reflected colour of the objects surrounding them, an effect known today as diffuse reflection.
