Wu Guanzhong (吴冠中; 1919 – 2010) was a contemporary Chinese painter widely recognised as the founder of modern Chinese painting. Considered to be one of the greatest contemporary Chinese painters. Wu’s artworks display both Western & Eastern influences – the Western style of Fauvism & the Eastern style of Chinese Calligraphy. Wu painted many aspects of China – architecture, plants, animals, people & landscapes in a style reminiscent of the impressionist painters. He was also a wonderful writer on contemporary Chinese art. Brilliant, beautiful.
