Latest UN report says that the Covid pandemic has plunged 77 million more people into extreme poverty in 2021. In less than 2 years since 2019, 100 million more children have fallen into desperate poverty. Many developing countries are forced to cut budgets for education & infrastructure due to the pandemic. Shockingly in 2021, 70% of 10 year olds in developing countries were unable to read a basic text, a 17% increase from 2019.
60% of least developed & low-income countries are at a high risk of or in debt distress. Vaccine inequity & cost of basic healthcare remains very high. Human rights of children are under threat to a degree that hasn’t been seen in over a generation.
