Music in their hearts…

An Afghan all women orchestra called Zohra (Persian Goddess Of Music) was made up of creative musicians from a Kabul orphanage, aged 13-20. This talented group entertained & mesmerised audiences from Sydney Opera House to World Economic Forum in Davos.

Now, music is banned in Afghanistan & women are not allowed to work. The day the music died. Afghanistan’s all-female orchestra falls silent. Wearing bright red hijabs, they played a vibrant mix of traditional Afghan music & western classics with instruments like the guitar & rabab. Formed in 2014, they became a global symbol of freedom of many Afghans. There was music full of colour, compassion & beautiful voices. But, now there is just silence. A poignant story of courage & passion.
