Vaquita…

Vaquita – world’s smallest, elusive, critically endangered porpoise. Literally on it’s last fins. Vaquita have a restricted range of any marine cetacean. Live in the Gulf of California, U.S.

Vaquita Conservation Society

Main threat to Vaquita is death by drowning in fishing gear. Vaquita has suffered from demand in China for swim bladder of Totoaba (cocaine of the seas), a highly endangered fish living in Vaquita habitat. Illegal fishing has led to serious population loss of Vaquita, Totoaba. Die in nets set for sharks, rays, mackerels, shrimps. Price of Totoaba swim bladder is exorbitantly high for organised crime to take control of fishing.

We can buy sustainable seafood, support conservation initiatives, raise awareness of the plight of Vaquita, Totoaba. A dozen Vaquita are left in the wild. Clock’s ticking for these…
