Email: How can we improve email writing skills in team? (Philippines)
Only by trial & error! Still learning how to structure emails to maximise chances of success. A few tips:
1st thing an email recipient sees is our name, subject line. Critical subject clearly clarifies purpose of email. Specifically, what we want them to do with note. Keywords like action, decision, request makes stuff absolutely clear. Start subject – ‘Action: submit project proposal’.
Military professionals lead emails with short, staccato statements called BLUF – Bottom Line Up First. Declares what’s required upfront. BLUF quickly answers 5W’s – who, what, where, when, why? BLUF helps readers instantly, clearly digest communications.
Short, succinct emails are more effective, try to fit content in 1 pane. Use active voice, puts nouns ahead of verbs. By using active voice we make verbs do the work for us…
