Email: Project manager for digital transformation. Not working. Why? (US)

Tough to comment without details. A few humble thoughts. Usually, big digital bets don’t pay off quick enough. Lessons emerge when heavy commitment to digital meets financial performance challenges. Factors like economy, desirability of products can cast shadows. Digital isn’t a thing we buy, plug into an organisation. Multi-faceted, doesn’t just involve technology.

Digital transformation is an ongoing process on the way we do business. Requires constant foundation in skills, infrastructure, operations, innovation. Mixing people, machines, business processes with all messiness it entails. Top down inspiration, investment, intervention on transformation efforts is key.

Digital governance, discipline is an excellent idea. When investing in digital, leaders are clear on why, what they want to accomplish, what it’ll take to get there with data-driven decision making. Understand impact on products, services, distribution, customers, competition. Digital brings exciting exploration, experimentation, fast feedback loops.

Big future waves like IoT, AI, data analytics, conversational commerce offer a need to heed siren calls of technological inventions. Instead of ramping up quickly, better to make structured, steady progress towards digital strategy, execution. Phases, transitions need well-defined yet flexible plans.

Good luck…
