Sumatran Rhinoceros is now officially extinct in native Malaysia.
Iman, a beloved 25 year old female died in a sanctuary in Malaysia’s Sabah state, on the island of Borneo.
There’re fewer than 80 Sumatran rhinos left, all of which live in Indonesia.
Sumatran Rhinos are smallest living rhinoceroses, only Asian Rhino with 2 horns. Threatened due to habitat loss, poaching, fragmentation with limited possibilities to breed. Sumatran Rhinos once roamed foothills of Himalayas in Bhutan, India, Myanmar. Experts believe species will probably soon be extinct. Now, critically endangered.
Unfortunate news, saddening…
