Millions of children in our world live in extreme poverty. Their families try to survive on less than $1.25 a day. Children are often deprived of medicine, education, food, shelter. Many live without access to clean water. They are unprotected, oppressed, starved of affection, growth opportunities. Trapped in a cycle of disadvantage passed from one generation to another, if they survive past childhood.
For many children born into poverty their 1st day of life is also their last. Of those who survive their 1st day, many die within the month. And even more die before the age of 5. But this need not continue.
Our world community is beginning to give it’s best to children. It’s improving the odds for every child, giving them a chance to rise above disadvantage, disability, discrimination. Offering protection from predators, abuse, strength to fight disease, ignorance, malnutrition, shame to live their full potential.
