Bach Xmas Oratorio…

Christmas holiday season would be incomplete without the resounding drum roll, trumpet fanfare of Bach’s “Oratorium auf die Heilige Weynacht(Oratorio for holy Christmas).

Ever since it was 1st performed by Thomaskantor between Christmas Day in 1734 and Epiphany 1735 in Leipzig’s main churches of St. Thomas, St. Nikolai, Bach’s 6 part musical masterpiece has become a cornerstone of city’s identity, musical heritage.

The 1st part (for Christmas Day) describes Birth of Jesus. 2nd part (for December 26) is the annunciation to the shepherds. 3rd part (for December 27) is the adoration of the shepherds. 4th part (for New Year’s Day) is the circumcision, naming of Jesus. 5th part (for 1st Sunday 2020) is journey of the Magi. 6th part (for Epiphany) is the adoration of the Magi.

A beautiful musical experience during the festive grandeur.
