A great philosophical question! Multiple definitions. Think, philosophy is the love of real wisdom. Critical thinking is identified with a curious inquirer ready to question possible assumptions, forms with logic. Philosophy is synonymous with an open, transparent critique, interpretation of knowledge.
Plato, Aristotle believed in freedom of inquiry – explicit, implicit. If philosophy is anything, at heart it’s reflecting on how we think about things, how we question stuff. I am sub-consciously thinking about things, that’s what I normally do. When I philosophise, I consciously think about what it is to think about things! An awesome attitude towards how we process, integrate thoughts, ideas, experiences, observations.
‘Natural philosophy’ included astronomy, medicine, physics. Newton’s Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy was later classified as a book of physics. Philosophy includes all disciples of study – psychology, sociology, humanity, meta-physics, economics, art, science, poetry. For example, what is beauty? Is it objective or subjective?! An all encompassing, natural way of thinking.
