Tea rituals…

Coffee or tea time? Need steroids, few hours of rest in days. A power beverage to get revved up in the morning, fuel when burning the midnight oil. Tea is a drink we turn to if desire relaxation. Black, green, white, herbal, hot, ice cold – tea is more than a refreshing drink. A ritual, a cultural experience.

Reverence for tea has inspired ceremony in many cultures like Japan, China, India. From spirituality of ‘Chanoyu‘ – Japanese way of preparing, serving tea to sharing of ‘Maté‘ in Latin America, tea rituals are for celebration, ceremony, bonding.

In China, tea rituals are an integral part of wedding ceremonies, serving older relatives as a mark of respect, gratitude. Chinese art of tea drinking has been a source of inspiration for poetry, love songs.
Russian custom of ‘Chaepitie‘ has a unique style of teapots, caddies, teacups, cozies. ‘Samovar‘ a special brewing device is symbol of Russian tea ceremony, an object of art.

Spice‘ tea is a magical experience in India. ‘Iced‘ tea in the U.S. is a modern ritual bringing cool relief on a sweltering summer day.

Sipping my tea slowly, savouring flavour, aroma. A little tea ritual provides a soothing pause, relief in a hectic world.
