Email: A lazy activity you enjoy doing? (N. Zealand)

Browsing old, dusty photo albums. Smell of nostalgia! Each day, we look at simplified pictures of pedestrians, cars, billboards, street signs. Pictorial icons for apps on phone’s, laptops.

Pictures are ubiquitous, fade into backgrounds of our conscious experiences. Can take them for granted. But, there’s a special magic in pictures. When we look at one, don’t only see colours on surface, marks jumbled together. Each picture tells a story, brings a memory. We see beyond what we’re looking at.

Picture itself – physical canvas, golden frames layered with glass is multi-dimensional. Stimulates visual senses, speaks without words. When we recognise ‘looking’ is not to be taken literally, start to see, make progress on philosophy of pictures.
