Parrots…

11 Latin American parrot species including military, scarlet macaws are classified as highly endangered. Foremost threats parrots face are loss of habitat, illegal trappings for pet trade, tourist entertainment.

75% of captured parrots die before reaching consumers. In Mexico roughly 60,000 annually. In Peru 80,000 parrots are poached annually. International efforts help endangered, fragile species of parrots – yellow-crested cockatoo, yellow-headed parrot, African grey parrot survive.

Keeping wild birds in cages is quite cruel. Love natural bird-watching trips. We can promote local bird conservation through simple, sustainable activities like not buying birds as pets, eco-tourism.
