Return Concorde flight – London to New York. Great experience for a speed freak! Concorde flew far above other flights, cruised faster than fighter jets! Superlative service, cuisine, exclusive airport lounge’s.
Dad was keynote speaker on socio-political crisis in Asia, needing urgent humanitarian focus, at UN General Assembly in New York. Due to M&A strategy at work, realised couldn’t attend. Dreary, disappointed for making Dad unhappy. He was looking forward to my presence, helped write his speech after extensive research.
The only way to reach on time was a ticket on Concorde. Extremely small, 100 seats. Office chairs, small windows, extremely noisy, scary. But, I was all smile’s ear to ear! Impossible not to feel pampered. Champagne never tasted so good. Tom Cruise, Bill Gates were onboard, as well.
Take-off was a phenomenal supersonic experience. A rifle bullet shot breaking sound barrier. Passengers were warned in advance on what to expect. Raging roar of Rolls-Royce Olympus engine’s, incomparable. Maximum speed twice speed of sound at Mach 2.04. At 60,000 feet, flew 5 miles above, 800 mph faster than subsonic 747’s plodding across Atlantic. A view of earth’s curvature was awe-inspiring.
Just wanted to be there for the loudest applause, see smile’s! Sadly, Concorde no longer takes to skies. But, found at aviation museum’s – Aerospace (Bristol, UK), Sea & Air Space Museum (NY, US), Air & Space Museum (Paris, France).
