Elderberry…

A wide array of herbs are well-suited for wellness goals, but one of my favourites to boost immunity is ‘elderberry‘. Berries, flowers, bark of elder plant have immense ability to maintain a healthy body functioning. An excellent plant ally to promote natural resilience, relaxation.

Classic Elderberry Syrup:

3 cups of syrup without alcohol, 4 cups with alcohol. Active time – 1 hour.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups dried organic elderberries
  • 4 cups cold water (spring water)
  • 2-3 tsp organic dried ginger root
  • 1 organic sweet cinnamon stick
  • 1 cup raw local honey (or maple syrup)
  • Double amount of sweetener to increase shelf life
  • 1 cup vodka or brandy 

Directions:

  1. Combine berries, herbs with cold water to boil
  2. Reduce heat, allow herbs to simmer 30 minutes
  3. Strain berries, herbs with a funnel overlaid cheesecloth 
  4. Once liquid has cooled, add honey and stir
  5. If using vodka or brandy, add and stir

Worth a try for general well-being, rejuvenation.
