Email: How do you deal with anger targeted at self? Sportsman, university basketball team. (US)
Honestly, don’t know much. Sounds strange, never actually felt ‘anger’ as an emotion (towards self or others). Guess, one extra degree of endurance, compassion, belief.
Usually, we feel ‘inner anger’ due to negative self-talk or unpleasant childhood experiences. Sub-consciously judge, criticise, blame selves as unworthy, lacking, not good enough. Stay fully present, positive in the moment. Motivated, consistent best efforts attract real abundance.
One thing I never do is ‘sympathise’ with self, never. Simply accept mistakes, imperfections. Calmly analyse perspectives, naturally flow. Emotional resistance shuts imagination, incredible insights. One negative thought is toxic. Chokes free flow of natural potential, creative self-expressions, exciting explorations.
The very nature of life is ignorance, learning, evolving through fated experiences. To succeed we need to fail. There’ll always be unique dualities within – light/dark. Finding inner strength, balance, self-forgiveness is key. Hence, love self unconditionally with an optimistic mind, hopeful heart, playful spirit.
Many resources online as good reference points (links below). Honestly identify triggers (e.g. vulnerabilities, insecurities). Patiently minimise root causes, courageously face the challenge. Stress management techniques work wonders (rest, passionate pursuits, mindfulness). If nothing helps, please seek professional counselling.
All the very best.
