Email: Dad says I’m imperfect, good for nothing. Sad. (Vietnam)
Quest for perfection is never-ending (define perfection anyways?). When we make mistakes, feel dissatisfied, think we’re failing or not measuring up, we’re actually at the cusp of new challenges, landmarks, growth. If life’s about energetically exploring, experimenting, experiencing, evolving, then to be imperfect is a pre-requisite.
This doesn’t mean we don’t strive to be our highest selves, that’s good enough. Perfection may happen in a moment, but it’s an impermanent state. Causes frustration, unhappiness. Sometimes, perfectionism is a roll-over from childhood, an ideal we inherit from demanding parents. An unrealistic expectation. By embracing imperfections, we truly embrace selves.
