Fire cider…

Love this hot, sweet, zesty, vinegary recipe. Fire Cider is a popular herbal folk remedy. Tasty combination of vinegar infused with herbs to boost natural health, well-being.

Standard base ingredients – apple cider vinegar, garlic, onion, ginger, horseradish, hot peppers. Can add jalapenos, rosemary, organic turmeric powder, fresh lemon peel.

Consumed straight by spoonful, added to veggie juice (olives). A non-alcoholic, health boosting bloody Mary! Splashed in fried rice, drizzled on salads with shredded carrots, cabbage, broccoli, fresh herbs, greens. Also, deliciously aromatic stir fries.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium organic onion, chopped
  • 10 cloves of organic garlic, crushed
  • 2 organic jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • Zest, juice from 1 organic lemon
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated organic ginger root 
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated organic horseradish root 
  • 1 tbsp organic turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp organic cayenne powder
  • 2 tbsp dried rosemary leaves
  • Organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of raw local honey

Method:

  1. Prepare roots, fruits, herbs. Place in a glass jar 
  2. Pour apple cider vinegar until ingredients are covered
  3. Use a plastic lid. Shake well
  4. Store in a dark, cool place for 4 weeks, shake daily
  5. Use cheesecloth to strain out pulp, pouring vinegar into clean jar
  6. Stir in honey for desired sweetness

Herbal Ingredient Variations:

Organic herbs, spices make a wonderful addition to fire cider.

Thyme, Rose-hip, Star Anise, Berries, Parsley, Oregano, Peppercorns, Beet Root, Orange, Grapefruit.
