TAP Dance – uses sounds of Tap Shoes, striking the floor as a form of percussion. Shoes have a ‘metal tap‘ on heels, toes. Major variations of Tap dance are Flamenco, Rhythm (Jazz) Tap, Classical Tap. Broadway Tap is rooted in English theatrical tradition. Focuses on formations, choreography, less complex rhythms. Rhythm Tap focuses on musicality, Jazz traditions. Classical Tap marries European classical music with American foot drumming. Wide variations of full-body expressions. Contemporary Tap incorporates abstract expressions, thematic narratives, technologies. Irish step dancing creates it’s own melody using the feet!
