CHA-CHA-CHA – informally called Cha-cha, a dance of Cuban origin. Danced to music introduced by Cuban composer, violinist Enrique Jorrin (1950’s). Rhythm created from Danzón-Mambo. Cha-cha is 1 of 5 dances of Latin American Program Of International Ball-Room Competitions.
Basic footwork pattern of Cha-cha (two, three, cha-cha-cha) is found in several Afro-Cuban dances. Cha-cha is danced to authentic Cuban music, although in competitions it’s often danced to Latin Pop, Latin Rock. Music for International Ballroom Cha-cha-chá is energetic, exciting with steady beats. Involves complex poly-rhythms.
