Unsure of logic for superstitions? But, new generations are much less superstitious. More rational, balanced. Even in my family, grand-parents had specific ways of thinking which parents didn’t totally adopt. International exposure, education, access to diverse perspectives, travel experiences of new cultures, interactions with many nationalities enlightens, amazes, inspires. Essence of all cultures is love, harmony, compassion.
Breaking, improvising generational thought patterns is challenging. Needs conscious efforts to effectively disconnect from distorted, self-perpetuating talk. To a large extent, our behaviours, attitudes are influenced by childhood. A community, collective way of being, experiences of a specific era.
I adopted some crazy traits of grand-parents! Defensiveness, low vulnerability. Mainly due to family under constant public eye, always guarded. Unconsciously, we can become end-points of uncomfortable family beliefs. Open-mindedness, tolerance, curiosity, conscious awareness, learning helps discern our own reality.
I struggled with cumulative effects of family expectations, traditions, established modes of living for many years. One day, simply off-loaded negative self-talk as it affected health, happiness, ambitions. To transcend old ideas, emotional stiltedness, vague traditions, quite earnestly examined impact on creative self-expressions, joy, aspirations, evolution, authenticity.
Ultimately, a break-through of some sort is not defiance. Sensitive communications, thoughtful actions were genuinely appreciated by family. Initiated a few ‘first time’ inventive approaches to traditions.
Trusting, asserting self humbly determines what resonates with core life-force. Surely, next generations will further improvise, enhance more than mine ever could.
