Email: How do you deal with critical comments on blog? (US)
Always look for ways in which critics can help evolve, grow. Try to humble self, listen to voices of disagreements, without judging their feedback.
But, there’s a fine line between being a helpful voice of advice and a troll. Some will want to flame, not for any evident, rational reasons. Deal in compassionate, sympathetic ways.
We have a choice to make. Obsess over criticism, worry. Try to please by watering down creative quality. Or simply get on, pursue our passions with real belief. E.g. applying make-up, nail polish, glittery clothes don’t make us feminine. It’s material vanity, not feelings. Our state of minds, hearts, spirits define who we are. Innate sense of self.
Creativity is a very personal, genuine expression of our dreams, desires, imaginations, experiences. No battles with faceless, word-wielding trolls. Stephen King, “if you intend to write as truthfully as you can, your days as a member of polite people are numbered.”
Remember, the worst reaction we can get is indifference.
