Basant Panchami, a vibrant festival marks arrival of spring in India, celebrated by millions. Also marks the start of preparations for Holi (festival of colours), one of the biggest events in India.

Basant means springPanchami means 5th day. Falls on 5th day of spring.

Celebrated by preparing bouquets, garlands of flowers set with mango leaves, as an auspicious gift or home decorations. People dress in new saffron, pink or yellow attires – pure colours of fire. Singing, music, dancing in glowing mustard fields creates a very merry atmosphere. Kite flying competitions are great fun to watch, as well.
