Good enough is the new perfect!
Grew up in a perfection focused culture where beautiful bodies are air-brushed, heavy scrutiny of school scores, homes, parenting, voices digitally enhanced for perfection. We search for unnecessary flaws in self, think we’re falling short.
We’re expected to give 110%, all the time. Failure is not an option! Confusing books of self-help gurus, guides. Message is same, we aren’t good enough, the way we are!
Trapped in a perfection spiral, we get creatively blocked, mentally trapped. Perfection isn’t absolute – always shifting, unreachable, indefinable. Perfectionism is our denial of two basic truths – we aren’t perfect, we aren’t ultimately in control.
We think the more perfect we are, more valid we are as people. We fear imperfections will expose us as failures. Actually our vulnerability is our greatest strength. Spurs learning, growth, honest realisations. Bright light gets in through our cracks!
Happy to be good enough. True efforts are good enough. Freedom for new experiences, to make mistakes. Let go of control, go with natural rhythms, flow of life. Stopped defining self by work, rather focus on creative expressions, service to others.
Learning to embrace imperfections. Choose to live with love, compassion, kindness for others, self. Accept dynamic purpose, pace of life.
