NASA mission music…

Bach, Mozart, Stravinsky, a great mix. On ‘Voyager space mission in 1977′, a ‘Golden Record’ was loaded to the craft, sent drifting into space, a message in a bottle, hoping to reach other intelligent life!

So, what did they choose and why?

Timeless Logic of Bach:

A crowning composer, music of Bach demonstrates humanity’s appreciation of balance, symmetry. Unsurprisingly, Bach made the cut – 1st movement of Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F and Gavotte En Rondeau from Partita No. 3 in E major for violin.

Rule Breaking of Stravinsky:

Sacrificial Dance from The Rite of Spring, tells a very different story from Bach. A human need to innovate by bending, breaking rules.

Raw Emotion of Beethoven:

Defining characteristic of humans is compassion for each other. Most enduring piece of music, 1st movement of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, bursting with raw emotions.

Gymnastic Abilities of Human Voice:

Mozart’s iconic classical music, inimitable ‘Queen Of The Night’ Aria from Die Zauberflöte, (Edda Moser). 1st human voice heard by an extra-terrestrial.
