Remembering ’Huzoorji’. Most nurturing, adorable ‘Head Butler’ in Delhi, 40 years.
Gifted with a unique, amazing bond with birds, especially bulbul’s and pigeons. Mastered the art of controlling these wild birds using a whistle and a bell. Twice a day, 100’s of wild pigeons and bulbuls naturally flocked into our garden upon his summons – mesmerising whistling tunes and echoing bell sounds. Familiar tunes for birds, daily.
Inspiring, unusual and unbelievable. Loved feeding the bulbul’s and pigeons with bags of seeds and berries, while he whistled.
Tried to learn his tricks, chants, charm, style but simply couldn’t replicate the ethereal bond between Huzoorji and wild birds. An enchanting, unforgettable experience.
He called me ‘Bulbul‘ – a curious, playful, chirpy songbird. To continue tradition, household staff still lovingly calls me ‘Bulbul‘.
