Fair-play…

Email: Play tennis, very competitive at work, play. Is aggression good? (HK)

Sports require us to pit our skills against another. At work, we may subconsciously  compete due to shared pursuits, need to prove our worth, sometimes aggressively.

Adopting an aggressive approach isn’t helpful. Our high energy, spirits can be put to good use without alienating others. We may win or lose but gain real satisfaction to see team members perform together.

Aggression and competitiveness don’t mix well. The pleasures of playfulness has more to do with togetherness than triumph. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t win sporting events, just not at the cost of unnecessary conflict. Fairplaybalance is buzz word.

There’s a distinct difference between testing self versus trying to best others. Testing self allows us to make mistakes, learn, expand, improve, inspire. Our desire to win won’t overshadow our desire for priceless companionships, grace and dignity.

The most challenging, constant competition we will ever face is to humbly, honestly better ourselves!
