Terracotta Army…

Xian – Terracotta Army is an exquisite, rare collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his after-life.

3 massive pits containing Terracotta Army hold more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, 150 cavalry horses. Awe-inspiring beauty, elegance and wonder!

Figures are life-sized. Vary in height, uniform, hairstyle in accordance with rank. Faces are different for each individual figure.

Armoured warriors, infantrymen, cavalrymen, helmeted drivers of chariots, spear-carrying charioteers, kneeling armoured archers, generals, lower-ranking officers.

Figures were painted with bright pigments – pink, red, green, blue, black, brown, white and lilac. Coloured lacquer finish on individual facial features give figures a realistic feel.

One of the most beautiful archeological sites to visit. Feel truly overwhelmed and tearful, soaking in the exotic energy and amazing ambience, each time I’ve visited.

Preparing own little, lovely warrior army for my burial….!
