Tōru Takemitsu (武満 徹, Takemitsu Tōru) was a wonderful Japanese composer / writer on aesthetics & music theory. Largely self-taught, Takemitsu was admired for the subtle play of instrumental & orchestral timbre. Known for combining elements of oriental & occidental philosophy, for fusing sound with silence & tradition with incredible innovation. Takemitsu said “music is a form of prayer”. Ethereal.
