Pictures at an exhibition…

At an art exhibition. Look forward to some quiet, relaxing time…

Bunch of people, repetitively: This is beautiful, at each art piece for 5 seconds!

Me: Hmm, is all art beautiful? Art’s an expression of emotions, passions, desires, imaginations. Communication of intimate concepts without words. Is beauty cosmetic? Plenty of pretty pictures, do we refer to all as beautiful? Beauty is rather a measure of senses, emotions. Beautiful art can be pretty, bright, dark, ugly. Eternally subjective.

Works of art elicit a sense of wonder, cynicism. Direct, complex, subtle, obscure. But, honest aesthetic experiences. Art isn’t necessarily positive, perfect. But, if it evokes an emotion, it’s art.

Beauty depends on who’s looking! A thing of beauty is ‘whole’, all encompassing. A flower is beautiful with all it’s petals. Surely, there’re traditional standards, definitions of beauty. And Picasso, Munch, Schoenberg created unique beauty.

Art’s what resonates, strikes a chord. Beauty alone isn’t art, but art can be made of beautiful things! Beauty’s a misty mountain. Art’s a tattered photo with a personality.

Classical, Renaissance, Romantic, Modern art reflect it’s evolving nature in social, cultural contexts with multiple forms, styles. Mostly, we think of art as what’s found in museums. So, by default curated is beautiful?

Why is one piece of work considered beautiful art, others not? Incredible.

Whatever, time for a hot cup of coffee. Where’s the art cafe?…
